With anything, if it’s not flat-out bad, I can find the good in it. I would definitely say my style is an amalgamation of most of my influences. RASHAD: Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, The Temptations-a lot of Motown stuff. UKIOMOGBE: What did your parents play music in the house? What did you listen to growing up? UKIOMOGBE: What artists have you recently discovered that you love? Throughout the year, I listen to whatever’s tight. Some publications are super commercial and on others you can find some pure, untouched, underground shit that’s gonna be popular in three years. You know how you wait to binge? Sometimes I wait until the end of the year to see everybody’s lists tailored to different demographics. RASHAD: Friends’ suggestions, or whatever Spotify or Apple Music recommends me. UKIOMOGBE: What was the last song you listened to? RASHAD: Master P made me want to be a rapper. UKIOMOGBE: Who was the earliest musician to influence you? UKIOMOGBE: In your opinion, what album has zero skips? Something that you can play top to bottom and it’s flawless throughout. Some albums just seem to be playlists themselves so I kind of pick off songs from them. RASHAD: Straight through, especially if they’re made for that. UKIOMOGBE: Are you a playlist-maker, or do you listen to albums straight though? I feel more involved with my day when I listen to music because I don’t be sitting down and listening, unless I’m at a function or the homie’s crib. RASHAD: When I’m not listening to music, I’m probably at my unhealthiest. UKIOMOGBE: Do you find it helpful to listen to music while you make your own or do you prefer to be in your own zone? After taking a five-year hiatus following his critically-acclaimed 2016 album The Sun’s Tirade, the Chattanooga, Tennessee native is back with The House Is Burning.
